Much Ado About Nothing
Costume Design & Acting
Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s most well-known comedies, and for good reason. Most comparable to a modern rom-com, it sees one couple brought together by the scheming of their friends and family while another couple is almost torn apart by the scheming of a bitter villain. Our adaptation will take place in the modern day.
This show was both a blessing and a curse for me. Portraying the role of Borachio and costuming fifteen actors (one not pictured) in multiple outfits was no light feat, although I'm glad that I pushed myself to do so. I was excited to use my love for color theory and rainbows in order to costume each character in a distinct color palette, as well as play with the modern-day setting and explore different aesthetics. Much like Shakespeare himself, our casting played with gender and I loved showcasing androgynous outfits on some of the actors involved, rather than conforming to gender norms. The production left me exhausted, also teaching me about boundaries and the notion that just because I am able, does not mean that I have to.
Performed on March 2-4, 2023.
